Steamed Bok Choy with Sesame Sauce

Steaming vegetables is a great cooking method that retains a lot of the nutrients and is perfect for preparing bok choy. Served with a sesame sauce and sprinkled with crunchy seeds, this recipe makes a fantastic side dish or starter. A jar of LBN Pantry - Tahini Dressing will save you time and is a lighter, fresher alternative to the sesame sauce.

Ingredients:

-        4 small bok choy heads, halved

-        2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted

Sesame Sauce:

-        1 cup tahini

-        1 cup water

-        ½ lemon juice

-        ¼ cup olive oil

-        ¼ cup maple syrup (adjust to taste)

-        2 tsp sesame oil

-        ¾ tsp kosher salt (adjust to taste)

Instructions:

1.      Toast the Sesame Seeds

-        In a small, dry skillet over medium heat, toast the sesame seeds until golden and fragrant, about 2–3 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent burning. Set aside.

2.      Steam the Bok Choy

-        Clean the bok choy and trim any tough ends. Cut large heads in half lengthwise if necessary.

-        In a steamer or a pan with a lid and some water, cook the pak choi for 4–5 minutes, or until the stems are tender and the leaves are bright green. Be careful not to overcook.

3.      Prepare the Sauce

-        In a bowl, combine tahini, water, lemon juice, olive oil, maple syrup, sesame oil, and kosher salt.

-        Whisk well until the dressing is smooth and creamy. If it’s too thick, add a bit more water, one tablespoon at a time, to reach your desired consistency.

4.      Serve

-        Arrange the steamed bok choy on a platter or individual plates.

-        Drizzle generously with the sesame sauce, and sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds.

Bon appetite.
