Hibiscus Roselle Tea

This recipe was provided by our farm partner Susan Shaw at Hickory Hill Farms. Hibiscus Roselles are a fun ingredient to throw in smoothies, make into syrups or jams, or in this favorite iteration, brew into a delicious, tart, and fruity tea.


Prep Time 5 minutes | Cook Time 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS

1 cup fresh Roselle Flowers (calyces)

4 cups water

1/8 cup honey (optional)

3 tablespoons fresh orange or lime juice

Optional: Favorite herbs such as basil, mint, lemon balm, and rosemary

Remove the green part at the base of the flower where the stem is attached

Place flowers and water in a pot and bring the pot to a boil. Once boiling, turn off heat and cover the pot. Throw in optional favorite herbs like basil, mint, lemon balm, and rosemary.

Let the tea steep for 30 minutes minimum. Mix in the honey (optional) and citrus of your choice until incorporated. Strain the tea to remove any solids.

Serve hot or refrigerate for a few hours if you’d like to serve iced. Enjoy!
